Aerith is the daughter of Ilfana, one of the last Cetra, and Gast Faremis, a professor involved in the Jenova project. When trying to escape Shin-Ra, Ilfana only managed to make it as far as Midgar before she died, entrusting Aerith to Elmyra Gainsborough. She spent most of her life in Sector 5, even managing to grow flowers in the Sector 5 church after being told that nothing could grow in the slums. Aerith first met Zack when he “fell from the sky” and landed in her church. He was the one that bought her the pink bow that she wears in her hair. The two struck up a relationship, which continued even after Zack left on a mission that was to last four years. Aerith continued to write him letters while he was away on his mission, not having realized that he died on his return home. It’s some time later that Aerith meets Cloud, offering to sell him one of her flowers on the street. She meets him again not longer after inside of the same church where she met Zack. Aerith takes him as her bodyguard. Their journey brings them to The Temple of the Ancients in search of the Black Materia. After Cloud is controlled by Sephiroth and returns it to him, Aerith goes after Sephiroth herself, believing that the White Materia, Holy, in her ribbon can stop him. Aerith is found in the Forgotten Capital, praying for Holy. Sephiroth took control of Cloud again, but ultimately killed Aerith himself. The Holy Materia fell into the river, and Aerith’s Holy spell was able to fight off Sephiroth’s meteor. Even after death she continues to help Cloud, appearing in visions to encourage him and help him to forgive himself. |
